The community service team from the PTIK FKIP UNS Study Program chaired by Mr. Puspanda Hatta, S.Kom., M.Eng held a workshop on the introduction and use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology for MGMP Teachers TKJ Boyolali, Salatiga, and Klaten. The event was held at one of the Vocational High Schools in Boyolali Regency, namely SMK Karya Nugraha, on August 30 and 31 2019. The event was one of a series of activities in the Community Partnership Program with the theme “Strengthening Production Units in Vocational Schools to Develop Science, Technology Teaching Materials , Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Through Partnerships with Digital Product Marketplaces in Facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0”.

The workshop was held because of the rapid development of industrial system technology 4.0 which has the potential to disrupt various sectors including education. Therefore, before the workshop was held, the community service team from PTIK partnered with one of the vocational schools in Boyolali district, namely SMK N 1 Sawit, to carry out several preliminary activities for situation analysis on the readiness of stakeholders in implementing industrial 4.0 technology. The activity was the introduction and training of the use of industrial system technology 4.0 to the TKJ production unit at SMK N 1 Sawit. In the preliminary activity, the production unit of SMK N 1 Sawit succeeded in creating an IoT product named  SiRUPIN (Sistem Rumah Pintar). The product was contested in the 2019 Kreatifitas dan Inovasi (KRENOVA) competition in Boyolali.

Seeing the success and enthusiasm of stakeholders in implementing the industry 4.0 system in the SMK production unit, this service activity was continued with a workshop for TKJ teachers. The workshop aims to encourage TKJ teachers to make STEM teaching materials based on simple industry 4.0 projects such as IoT-based smart home technology. The workshop was attended by approximately 55 TKJ MGMP teachers from Boyolali, Salatiga, and Klaten districts. The workshop was carried out by dividing participants into 8 groups and then making an IoT-based smart home mockup. All participants in the workshop succeeded in making miniature smart homes by assembling sensors, connecting to the internet and controlling these sensors via smartphones.
