Surakarta, July 30, 2026 – The Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering Education (PTIK), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the digital transformation of education through a Community Service Program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PkM). Held at SMP Negeri 3 Surakarta, a team of PTIK FKIP UNS lecturers organized a training workshop entitled “Developing Interactive Learning Media Using Canva Coding AI,” attended by teachers from various subject areas.
This activity was part of an initiative to enhance teachers’ digital competencies in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to create more engaging, interactive, and effective learning media that meet the demands of 21st-century education. The training also supports the implementation of Indonesia’s Merdeka Curriculum, which promotes student-centered learning through the integration of digital technologies.
SMP Negeri 3 Surakarta, which embraces the slogan “DIGDAYA – A Digital School with Cultural Values,” continues to strengthen its culture of innovation in teaching and learning. Through this training, teachers were equipped with practical skills in using Canva Coding AI to develop a wide range of interactive learning media without requiring prior programming knowledge. Participants learned how to leverage AI to design learning activities, create interactive quizzes, educational games, simple simulations, and hyperlink-based learning resources that can be directly integrated into classroom instruction.
The training was conducted using a hands-on workshop approach, enabling participants not only to gain conceptual understanding but also to produce tangible learning media during the sessions. With direct guidance from the PTIK FKIP UNS lecturer team, teachers actively developed instructional materials tailored to the characteristics and learning objectives of their respective subjects.
In addition to the interactive media development sessions, participants also received guidance on integrating their products into digital platforms, allowing the materials to be accessed and utilized more effectively in teaching and learning activities. This approach is expected to enhance teachers’ creativity while strengthening the digital learning ecosystem within the school.
Based on the evaluation results, the training received highly positive feedback from participants. Most teachers considered the training materials highly relevant to their instructional needs and appreciated the opportunity to gain new insights into the application of AI technologies in education. Participants also reported increased confidence in independently developing interactive learning media using Canva Coding AI.
Through this community service initiative, the PTIK Study Program of FKIP UNS hopes to continue its collaboration with SMP Negeri 3 Surakarta through various teacher professional development programs. This partnership between higher education institutions and schools is expected to further strengthen teachers’ digital competencies, encourage educational innovation, and contribute to improving the quality of learning in the digital era.
