FKIP UNS – The Informatics and Computer Engineering Education Study Program (PTIK), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), organized an international guest lecture as part of the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Recognition (EQUITY) program through the Visiting (Inviting) Top Professors scheme. The event featured a speaker from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Prof. Dr. Fatin Aliah Phang, and was held over two days on April 6–7, 2026, at the Hall of Building G, FKIP UNS.
The first day of the event was officially opened by the Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Imam Sujadi, M.Si. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of strengthening international collaboration to enhance the quality of education and research within FKIP.
The main session on the first day was a guest lecture titled “Integrating STEM and Environmental Awareness in Informatics Education for Sustainable Development”, moderated by Vearen Dika Sofirudin, S.Pd., M.Ed. The event was attended by 6th- and 8th-semester students of the PTIK Study Program.
Participants showed great enthusiasm, particularly during the question-and-answer session. Students actively engaged in critical discussions on the integration of STEM and environmental issues in informatics education. As a token of appreciation, the speaker also presented souvenirs to active participants.
In her presentation, Prof. Fatin explained that sustainable development is not solely focused on technological advancement, but must also consider the balance between social, economic, and environmental aspects. She also highlighted the impact of human activities on increasing greenhouse gas emissions, which are among the main causes of global warming.
Furthermore, the concept of a low carbon society was introduced as a solution for creating communities capable of maintaining quality of life while minimizing carbon emissions through the use of environmentally friendly technologies.
On the second day, the program continued with a session titled “Introduction to PBL and Problem Crafting”, conducted as a discussion forum involving lecturers from three study programs under the Department of Vocational and Technical Education (JPTK) UNS: PTIK, PTM, and PTB. The session was held on April 7, 2026, at the Hall of Building G, FKIP UNS.
This session focused on the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and strategies for designing contextual problems (problem crafting) in engineering education. The discussion was highly interactive, with lecturers exchanging experiences and ideas on developing project- and research-based learning.
Through this series of activities, PTIK FKIP UNS hopes to strengthen STEM integration in informatics education while also enhancing environmental awareness among students and lecturers. In addition, the program serves as a strategic step toward expanding international collaboration networks and encouraging the development of globally reputable research and publications.
