The PKM Team (Community Partnership Program) Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta held a workshop in the form of training on Arduino UNO-based microcontroller programming located at SMK Muhammadiyah 6 Karanganyar. This activity is carried out as a manifestation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the form of community service. The target participants for this training are 2nd grade SMK students who come from the field of computer and electronics expertise with a total of 20 participants.

Agus Efendi, in this case as the Head of the TIM organizing PKM activities, said that this training activity included (1) programming techniques for the Arduino UNO microcontroller, (2) the use of downloader software for the ARDUINO UNO microcontroller, and (3) the practice of electronic sensor device modules based on the ARDUINO UNO microcontroller. During the training activities are facilitated by using a robotic trainer media named “AGUS TRAINER”. This training event involved several PKM TEAM personnel including Mr. Dr. Agus Efendi, M.Pd as the head of the PKM organization, Mr. Basori, S.Pd., M.Pd and Mrs. Nyeyep as a member of the TIM. As a facilitator in this activity is Bima Fauzan. They are PTIK students who have competence in the field of microcontrollers. During the implementation, his colleagues were also assisted who were directly involved as instructors for this training activity.

Mr. Agus Efendi said that this training began with the presentation of the orientation theory on the Arduino UNO microcontroller. After receiving the material, the participants were assigned to practice. The practicum modules include: (1) LCD module, (2) Servo module, (3) motion sensor module, (4) rain sensor module, (5) tilt sensor, (6) ultrasonic module,(7) relay module, (8) humidity module, (9) Led and Buzzer.

During the interview, the training participants stated that they were satisfied with the implementation of this activity, especially in improving the skills of students in the field of electronic sensors and microcontrollers. This is shown from the level of enthusiasm, motivation and active participation of participants during the training that can take place in full as indicated by the presence without being absent. Besides that, the performance of the participants during the training brought real success. It is evident that the participants have succeeded in carrying out the process steps in using the ARDUINO UNO module which includes 3 main steps, namely creating a program, translating (compiling) the program, and loading the program into the ARDUINO UNO microcontroller module. The discipline of the participants during the training should be proud of and they are well aware of the benefits for themselves. The ability of the participants to capture knowledge of the material is indeed different from one another, this is due to the level of individual abilities and their scientific base which is quite diverse. However, this problem does not have a significant contribution to practical performance. Cases for participants who have difficulty can be anticipated with a cooperative and constructive approach by emphasizing intensive mentoring for those who do not fully understand.

Mr. Agus Efendi also mentioned that this series of activities was very useful, at least it could educate the nation’s children to be equipped with hard skills and soft skills related to competency skills in the Arduino UNO microcontroller programming field which in the end led them to find their identity with full confidence to become human beings who are useful for community life. This activity is expected to be able to effectively create active, creative and innovative thinking skills. In the future, community empowerment in the field of improving hard skills and soft skills can continue, so that people are equipped with abilities that can be useful for creating independent jobs.
