By bringing an assistive technology innovation product to South Korea called SO-LI Sense: 3D Mapping and Artificial Intelligence Combination Assistive Technology for Blind People, 4 UNS Informatics Engineering Education Students together with a Mechanical Engineering Education student who joined a team called EnumaTech, succeeded in bringing home with a bronze medal and a special award from King Abdulaziz University. The five students are as follows:
- Andreas Wegiq Adia Hendix (From PTIK UNS) as chairman and programmer
- Ragil Setiawan (From PTIK UNS) as vice chairman and secretary
- Adimas Agustinus (From PTIK UNS) as treasurer and electrical technician
- Calvin Mikhailouzna Gibran (From PTIK UNS) as programmer
- Muhammad Afriyansyah (From PTM UNS) as mechanical technician
They managed to bring home 2 achievements at once for their struggles during a competition titled an exhibition called Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2019 which was held at COEX Hall C Gangnam district, Seoul, South Korea on November 27-30 2019. Followed by around 630 products, brought in by thousands of people from different countries. Indonesia in this event was represented by 54 teams consisting of students from well-known universities such as UGM, UNDIP, and ITS as well as high school students. UNS itself was represented by 4 teams, one of the four teams was the EnumaTech team.
For 3 days, the EnumaTech team participated in the competition by exhibiting and presenting the SO-LI Sense assistive technology for the visually impaired which was the prototype of the proposal funded by the Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) 2019. SO-LI Sense is a prototype in the form of a helmet equipped with a depth sensor. , RGB sensor (camera), and lidar 360 degree sensor. Not only that, to support data processing, SO-LI Sense is embedded with a digital assistant program that has the ability to process data from the three sensors and there is a smart navigation feature that can direct blind people to avoid obstacles in front of them. With SO-LI Sense, it is hoped that it can help improve mobility, increase confidence when walking, and provide a sense of security for the visually impaired. This prototype is still under development, to improve the functional and ergonomic aspects.
The Bronze Prize given to the EnumaTech team is a form of appreciation from the 2019 SIIF judges who were impressed with the idea and development of SO-LI Sense. Then the Special Award given by King Abdulaziz University is a form of appreciation for prototypes that are unique and have great potential to be marketed.
Currently, the EnumaTech team is still developing SO-LI Sense so that one day the assistive technology can be marketed and used by the visually impaired to support their mobility activities.
